Sinful Colors-Grecian Sun

Hello dolls.  Here is what I am wearing on my nails:

I started out with the blue base, which is from Sinful Colors in Grecian Sun.  Grecian Sun was recently released with the Cast Away collection this Spring.  It is a lovely cyan blue.  I did three coats for these pictures:

Then,  I added some fimo flowers on my pointer and ring fingers.  I bought these from Sally Beauty a while ago, but fimo nail art is much, much, cheaper on Ebay (cut them yourself to save even more!). 

Just be sure to add a thick coat or two of clear polish on top to seal down the edges of the fimo. 

The next day, I took some tape and cut it into strips to make some stripes on the other nails.  I used Sally Hansen's White On to create the stripes.

The stripes aren't as crisp as I would like, and that's probably because I stuck the tape to my skin first before putting it on my nails.  Fail.  Next time, I'm going to try to cut skinnier tape to make smaller stripes.  :)

Butterflies & the Blues

Hi everyone!  Here is my current mani:

This electric blue color is the Sally Hansen polish that I picked up in this post.  I love this color!  It is such a pretty blue.  My only complaint is that it did stain my cuticles, even with the acetone clean up.  Oh, and slight bubbling. *sigh*  

I am really liking this mani though.  I used two coats of Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme wear in Blue Me Away.  Then I cut up some fimo canes and applied the blue and white flowers and butterflies to my nails with some clear nail polish.  I used Wet 'n Wild topcoat to seal in the fimo to my nails.  

I only applied the fimo to my ring finger and my thumb-my accent fingers. :)  Fimo can be tricky to wear so here are some tips:

1. Cut them as thin as you can

2. Warm them up with your fingers so that they are more pliable before you apply them to your nail

3. Use an orange stick to help seal the fimo to your nail 

4.  Apply serious layers of topcoat over the fimo to help it stay on your nail and not be lifted off 

5.  File down any sharp edges of fimo with a nail file

Fimo Art

I have had acrylic nails for about six years and just only recently took them all off.  My nails were so brittle and damaged that I wasn't sure how to get them healthy again.  I have gone through an entire bottle of SinfulColors Nail Hardener ($1.99) to protect my nails.  In the meantime, I have been experimenting with nail art and different techniques. 

I really like the look of fimo nails, but they can be kind of tricky to wear.  I bought these fimo canes from Ebay for $1 plus shipping.  

 

These canes are made from clay and are about 2 1/2 inches long.  To use them, take a sharp razor blade and cut them into thin slices.  To place them on your nails, just dot a small amount of clear polish on your nails and position them into place with a pair of tweezers.  Brush on two coats of clear polish over your designs to seal them in.
